Ps 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He
shall never permit the righteous to be moved. NKJV
When you think of a burden, its something that’s heavy or weighs
you down.
What does our God tell you to do when something is weighing
you down, when something is bothering you?
What are you supposed to do with things that are perplexing you,
worrying you or when someone is overburdening your life?
As that Scripture above says, CAST THAT BURDEN ON THE LORD.
That’s the way to get rid of anxiety.
Phil 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to
God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will
guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. NKJV
Yes Jesus did say take my yoke upon you…
There is a yoke of service and commitment…
But Jesus said:
Matt 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. KJV
His yoke is easy. That’s how you can tell if its from the Lord or
not.
When something is from the Lord, there’s the grace and the
anointing to handle it.
Any other burden, He told us what to do with it. Give it to Him because
He’s the expert on such burdens.
For example: I’m not a mechanic. If I tried to fix my car, like my old
car, when the transmission needed to be replaced, I wouldn’t have
known where to start. What if I had decided I’ll fix that myself? I would
have had a stressful day. But when I turned it over to a transmission
mechanic who knew how to deal with it , then I could relax and let him
fix it. I didn’t have to leave my chair for my car to have anew
transmission system. I noticed when they opened it up, there were
pieces of metal everywhere. I wasn’t worried about that. I had turned it
over to an expert. When he was done everything was back to normal.
Worrying is like me trying get the mechanic off his job to try to fix it
myself.
That’s what we have to do with any of our cares. Turn them over to the
Expert. Someone who knows how to deal with them. Cast or throw
them all to the Lord.
A lady came to see papa Hagin and said: pray for God to take away
half of my troubles, I can handle the rest…
Of course he couldn’t pray such an unscriptural prayer, he told her he
couldn’t. She was upset at first, then she understood that she didn’t
have to handle any of them.
We have a word from the Lord that if we will throw off ALL of our
burdens on Him, HE WILL SUSTAIN US.
How are you going to make it through your troubles?
He will sustain you.
How are you going to make it financially through this month and the
rest of this year?
He will sustain you.
How are going to make it through these bad times?
He will sustain you.
How will you make it through the specific issues that your family is
facing?
He will sustain you.
Let’s say it with some faith:
HE WILL SUSTAIN ME.
Many of us know these things mentally, but when it comes to actually
doing it, we need a mind renewal.
The cares of life come to all of us
But none of us have to let them stay on us
You may not be able to stop birds or bugs from flying above your head.
But you can stop them from building a nest on your hair.
One fellow said, “I don’t worry about things I can do something about
cause I can do something about them, nor do I worry about things I
can’t do anything about cause I can’t do anything about them.”
That’s wisdom. What use would it be to worry about either one?
When you worry and go around about upset about something, it affects
other areas of your life. Why? You were never created to carry worry
or fear. And our Father loves us enough to let us know that worry is bad
for us.
So the next time you feel that heaviness come on you, put both of your
hands upside down on one of your shoulders and symbolically throw
them off on the Lord and then go relax while He works on them.
Why? He said He will sustain you.
Why? Because He loves you, He cares for you and all the details that
concern you.
1 Peter 5:7 Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your
worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for
you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. AMP
SUSTAIN
Some of the meanings of sustain is:
To support and carry, to assist, encourage and give strength, to
nourish, feed or nurture, to maintain, preserve and keep alive, back up,
cheer up and provide for, keep going and maintain.
Wow, our God has promised to do all that for those who CAST or throw
their burdens and cares on Him.
For you to make it through plagues, economic turns, diseases,
dangerous roads and dangerous people…etc. God has to sustain you.
Ps 91:16 With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”
NKJV
How do you get from where you are to Psalm 91:16?
How do you make it from young age to old age unharmed? You start
by trusting in the Lord and dwelling in His secret place.
For you to get there, the terror by night didn’t affect you, the arrow that
flies by day didn’t touch you, the pestilence that walks in darkness
didn’t come to you, the destruction that lays waste at noonday didn’t
affect you.
No evil befell you no plague came near your dwelling even if it affected
a thousand on your right hand and ten thousand on your left.
How did you make it through? HE SUSTAINED YOU! That’s how
you’ll make it all the way to long life.
Just as surely as you cast your burdens on the Lord is as surely as He
will sustain you.
In order to make it through famines, economic downturns, through
plagues, diseases, the swine flu and the bird flu, the ebola and the
corona, crime waves, political waves etc, to make it through all that to
old age, GOD HAS TO KEEP YOU.
ARE YOU BEING KEPT AND SUSTAINED?
A lot of people are not being kept. They’re not being sustained.
People are perishing right and left. Dying way too young, dying wrong
(there’s a right and a wrong way to die, there’s a right season and
wrong season to die.)
It doesn’t mean God didn’t love them. They were robbed of their lives.
Ps 91:16 was still the will of God for all of them.
But very few people were saying:
A thousand may die on my right and 10 thousand on my left but it won’t
happen to me. Not many people say to the Lord: You’re my refuge
and my fortress. Not many say: with long life will You satisfy me and
show me Your salvation. Very few church-going people would dare to
say that.
Some say: Well, you never know what’s God going to do. LIES. We
can know! You never know what’s going to happen next. But we know
what to do with what happens. We read the end of the book and we
win.
Ps 37:18-19 The LORD knows the days of the upright, and their
inheritance shall be forever. 19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil
time, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. NKJV
The enemy likes to embarrass you with lack. It’s embarrassing when
you can’t feed your kids, when you can’t pay your bills. But what’s the
will of God? It’s “they will not be ashamed in the evil day.”
I’ll not be ashamed in the bad time. Do you believe this? Or do you
fear like the rest of people around you? Do you say: I will be able to
pay my bills and do what I need to do or do you say I don’t even know
how we’re going to make it through the month?
In the days of famine, there’re a lot of people not making it. What about
you? What do you say?
The Bible says YOU’LL BE SATISFIED. What do you say?
Ps 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the
righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. NKJV
How did he get down from being young to old without begging for
bread?
Had David been through some things? How did he make it to being old
after all the battles he had been through? Goliath thought he could kill
him. Then Saul wanted to kill him, for years. He was a fugitive in his
own country. Later, his own son turned against him and wanted to
topple his government. How did he make it?
If God could keep David, surely he can keep you today.
The righteous is never forsaken…why? God keeps and sustains Him.
Ps 41:1-3 Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver
him in time of trouble. 2 The LORD will preserve him and keep him
alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to
the will of his enemies. 3 The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of
illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed. NKJV
Blessed is he that considers the poor – in order to be a blessing to the
poor, you shouldn’t be poor yourself. I’m not saying you can’t do
anything even if you don’t have a lot of income, but if you consider
yourself to be the poor, then you wont do anything towards the poor.
When you set yourself to do something about the poor, you’ll be
sustained…that’s one way you don’t lack anything in your house.
The Bible teaches us that there’s a blessing when you help someone in
need.
Prov. 28:27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who
hides his eyes will have many curses. NKJV
Prov. 19:17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and
He will pay back what he has given. NKJVProv. 22:9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he
gives of his bread to the poor. NKJV
When you give to the poor, you position yourself to be a priority with
God:
Ps. 41:2 The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, and he
will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of
his enemies. 3 The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of
illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.
In other words, he’ll not have to be the poor himself, He has positioned
himself to safe, healed and to be SUSTAINED.
Look at what the Lord does for you:
Job 5:19-24 He shall deliver you in six troubles, yes, in seven no evil
shall touch you. 20 In famine He shall redeem you from death, And in
war from the power of the sword. 21 You shall be hidden from the
scourge of the tongue, And you shall not be afraid of destruction when
it comes. 22 You shall laugh at destruction and famine, And you shall
not be afraid of the beasts of the earth. 23 For you shall have a
covenant with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be
at peace with you. 24 you shall know that your tent is in peace; you
shall visit your dwelling and find nothing amiss. NKJV
No matter how many problems you encounter or are going on in your
nation, God will be there to see to it that you are safe and provided for.
Even if there’s so much famine that people are robbing each other and
looting, there’ll be nothing missing in your house. He will SUSTAIN you.
V. 22 At destruction and famine; YOU SHALL LAUGH.
You’re not scared…you’re rejoicing you’ll be just fine. Well fed and
protected.
WHY?
HE’LL KEEP YOU.
However, if you embrace the fear with the rest of the people around
you, then you’ll become as vulnerable as the rest of the world.
SOMEONE SAY:
I’M GOING TO TRUST HIM. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, HE’LL
SUSTAIN ME. PHYSICALLY, HE’LL SUSTAIN ME. FINANCIALLY,
HE’LL SUSTAIN ME.
MORE THAN WORDS:
Trusting Him is more than words, if you really trust Him, you’ll do what
He tells you to do.
If you talk a good talk but when He tells you to do something you don’t
do it, then you don’t really trust Him. FAITH WITHOUT
CORRESPONDING ACTION IS DEAD.
Yes you trust Him but that trust is revealed in WORD AND ACTION.
God has a track record of taking care of His own who follow His
direction by acting on His Word:
Example:
1 Kings 17:1-7 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said
to Ahab, “As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there
shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.” 2 Then the
word of the LORD came to him, saying, 3 “Get away from here and turn
eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 4
And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have
commanded the ravens to feed you there.” 5 So he went and did
according to the word of the LORD, for he went and stayed by the
Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him
bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening;
and he drank from the brook. NKJV
Verse 3, God actually told him to get out of there and go hide. The
ravens (meat eaters) brought him sandwiches with meat twice a day.
Interesting. Is there a time when God can tell you to go hide yourself?
Yes; even Jesus got away from certain situations. Paul the apostle got
away from certain situations.
How do you know what to do?
Be led by the Spirit of God.
1 Kings 17:6-16 7 And it happened after a while that the brook dried
up, because there had been no rain in the land. 8 Elijah and the
Widow Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 9 “Arise, go
to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have
commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 10 So he arose and
went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a
widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said,
“Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” 11 And as she
was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a
morsel of bread in your hand.” 12 So she said, “As the LORD your
God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a
little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go
in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but
make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward
make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the LORD God
of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil
run dry, until the day the LORD sends rain on the earth.'” 15 So she
went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he
and her household ate for many days. 16 The bin of flour was not used
up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the LORD
which He spoke by Elijah. NKJV
What happened when the widow obeyed the direction of the Lord
through His prophet Elijah?
SHE AND HER SON WERE SUSTAINED.
