DISCOVERING YOUR PURPOSE

Dear Saints,

In our last bulletin we saw an interesting story in the book of

Luke 14:16-20

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

All these guys had excuses why they could not go for supper;

…. doesn’t that sound familiar? They did not understand that the master had Great plans for them. They opted for the minor issues, minor blessings, and rejected the major one. They mistakenly thought their purpose was in the things they had acquired, or that their lives consisted of the things they possessed. No, their purpose was hidden in being invited to the master’s presence, where wisdom, knowledge, understanding resides, where abilities and potential are revealed. Awesome place to be at. They forsook the opportunity. The master was angry…. I don’t like that, it’s never good to make the master angry…. The initial God’s plan was purposeful.

Look at what He told His first human creations:

Genesis 1:28

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

This is the area in which we have been very “successful.” We were told to be fruitful and multiply, in this, we have been diligently faithful. But again, “Family” has taken God’s place. Our purpose has been utterly obscured by things that are by far less of what God intended for us. He has in many ways admonished us to go back to His original plan. Put Him first, but what does that really mean? Find out next week in your SPREADING THE LIGHT BULLETIN. Stay blessed. We love you.
