And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Dear Saints,
In the past several weeks we have been talking about the subject of spirit, soul and body, “the whole man”. We have showed un-equivocally that man is a spirit, he has a soul and lives in a body. Although the spirit and the soul are very close, they are still different and separable.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Some people argue that the soul is the same as the spirit but if this is so, then they could not be separated even by the word. The word soul, appears 452 times in the Bible, while “spirit” appears 456 times. In most cases it refers to God’s Spirit. In Genesis, the Bible doesn’t say “the soul of the Lord moved”…..it says, “The Spirit of the Lord”….God is a Spirit, (John 4:24), not a soul. We are not born of the soul, but of the Spirit. In this article, we want to talk about the second part of man, the soul.
The soul comprises of three parts- the mind, the will, and the emotion. The word of God proves this very clearly.
Proverbs 2:10
This scripture shows us that the mind is part of the soul….”wisdom will enter into your heart”, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul”…..knowledge is a matter of the mind, this proves that the mind is part of the soul. Knowledge and wisdom are related to the soul. Prov. 19:21; 24:14. Psalm 139:14 says; “my soul knows it well”. To know is a matter of the mind”. The soul can remember things. The mind is the organ to know, to consider, and to remember as part of the soul. Psalm 13:2, Lamentations 3:20. We will dig deeper Into this to know what is the soul and how does it affect us. Please see your SPREADING THE LIGHT BULLETIN next week. I call you blessed.
