But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 8. So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

Shalom, hope you are all resting in the mighty hand of our God. Today we will take a side track of our series on sex (we will continue next week). This Sunday I want us to talk about the very important people in our lives, Mothers. The above scripture describes qualities of a mother. Gentle, cherish, affectionate, and desirous…. these are also God’s qualities. Mothers are very very special.
Now, I know there are some dead bit mothers who are totally irresponsible for their children but I want to pay more attention to the good mothers, described by the scripture above. Before we get too sentimental about mothers, let’s look at different scenarios of motherhood because:
- for some, motherhood was an accident, and not always a welcome one;
- for some, biological motherhood isn’t possible;
- for some, mothers weren’t all that nice;
- for some, motherhood under the very best of circumstances is still less than a bed of roses and a primrose path.
Motherhood is never easy. The responsibilities of a mother are enormous, from carrying the baby to 18 years later, and forever thereafter. To a mother, a child is always a child and in most cases is treated as such. Mothers seem to single handedly carry the family load all by themselves. Think about it, mother knows: When the baby gets hungry, When it gets sick, When it gets wet, When the baby has challenges…..the list goes on and on. Your mother went through all these and much more when you were growing up.
To become a (mother) is not so difficult; But being a mother is very much so. Motherhood with all its stumbling blocks, pitfalls, broken dreams, for all the soiled diapers, soiled wallpaper and spoiled plans, we’re talking about a beautiful ideal, a natural part of God’s creative plan to bring love and caring to light. Motherhood is a constant demand for the gift of love and caring. Let’s be grateful and appreciate our mothers, they made us (in the natural) who and what we are today.
