LOVE
OBEDIENCE IS A CHOICE
John 13
34A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
1 Samuel 18:3-4
Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
Dear Saints,
I salute you all in Jesus’ Name. Today we continue with our series on love. This is in-exhaustible subject, one that we can talk about for the rest of the year and not make a dent on it for two reasons. First and main reason is because it is WHO God is, and secondly, it is the one and only Commandment that fulfilled the whole law. We can choose to obey or disobey that commandment, if we do the latter, we will be breaking the entire law. Including loving God. David chose to obey the law of the covenant of love that he and Jonathan had entered into.
We now pick it up from where we left last week. David made a choice to walk in love. King Saul’s family behavior did not bother him. So upon his inquiries he learns that his covenant friend Jonathan, had a son. David knew that his covenant of love extended to the members of the families involved. So he called for Jonathan’s son to be brought to him. Jonathan’s son (Mephibosheth) did not know about the covenant relationship between his father and King David. He became a beneficiary of that love relationship between his father and King David. This was true love, the love of God.
Any other love has strings attached, the love of God is God Himself.
John 13:34
…..” A new commandment I give unto you…….” The Lord is saying, this is a new one, LOVE one another…..this ONE covers all. The interesting thing in this commandment is, Jesus told us to “love AS He loved……” He loved us so much, He became who we were so we can become who He was. You remember when Jonathan exchanged his garments, belt, girdle and all…..?
