PROTECTION
I am your shield
Genesis 15:1
After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Dearly Beloved,
I thank God for sustaining and keeping you. Protection is your right. As a good Father, God sees to it that you are safe. You know, when we say in our worship, “It’s all about God” that means, all thanks, worship, and adoration goes to Him. This is great because it shows we are totally immersed in Him, we have nothing to glory, or pride about. It’s all about Him. God, on the other hand says, “it’s all about YOU”. Think about it, you caused Him to give His Son.
When God saw man naked, He made a covering of animal skins for him. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. –Genesis 3:21.
God did not need a covering. It was all about “His man”. There are two major implications that can be derived from this scenario. One, that before He made the coats of skins, Adam and his wife were exactly like God, needing no covering. Two, that man was so important to Him, that He killed animals in order to make the coats. He could very well have been very upset because they had violated His command but instead, He covered their nakedness and shame. He will cover your nakedness and shame too…..as far as He is concerned, it’s all about you.
God will protect you socially, economically and physically. He says,
“Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more”. -Isaiah 54:4
This is absolutely powerful. God will not let anything that will cause neighbors, or un-believing friends and relatives despise you or sarcastically laugh at you because of your stand with Him. He will protect you from such things. He says, …
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD”. -Isaiah 54:17.
Notice the last three words: says the LORD. To God, it’s all about you. He is thinking, planning, and talking about you.
The Lord God is your shield. A shield is a large metal held while in a warfare for protection against any physical harm. With this in mind, you can see when God is your shield, nothing can penetrate that “shield”. The word says,
“For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. -Psalms 5:12
Favour overlooks guilt or condemnation. God favors you and says, you are mine; and it’s all about you…..Hallelujah. Well, check out for more in your SPREADING THE LIGHT BULLETIN next Sunday…it’s awesome.
