SUSTAINED BY THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD
1 Peter 5:7 Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. AMP
The reason you and I can commit our worries, concerns and anxieties on the Lord is because He absolutely cares. Brethren, God cares for you as His child with a great affection. He cares about everything that concerns you with a watchful eye. He is looking into matters that you have committed to Him. Why does He care anyway? He is inherently a good God.
Trusting in His goodness has a lot to do with what happens to us: good or bad. Look at these Scriptures:
Ps 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Ps 34:10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.
Ps 34:12-14 Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? 13 Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit. 14 Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. NKJV
Verse 13 in essence says that if we want a good life, we should ‘watch our mouth.’ In other words, if you want to see good, speak good. And since our words come out of our thoughts (Matt. 12:33-37), if you want to see good, purposely think good. The enemy will tempt you to speak evil so he can bring evil. For example: some people don’t realize that murmuring and complaining is speaking evil.
We know that God is not the author of evil. Let’s meditate on these Scriptures.
Ps 119:68 NKJV: You are good and do only good; make me follow your lead.
Ps 119:68 The Message: You are good, and the source of good; train me in your goodness.
Ps 52:1 Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The goodness of God endures continually.
Isa 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! NKJV
Since God is not the author of evil, we know that bad things are not blessings in disguise. There are no redeeming qualities in any evil. Whatever God calls evil, we should never call good. And what God calls good, we should call it good. For example: Healing is good, sickness is evil. Poverty is evil abundance is good. Amen.
Remember in 2 Kings 7:1-2 in Samaria when the famine was so bad that people were eating donkey heads, dove’s dung and even their own children, then Elisha prophesied that food would be available and quite inexpensive the next day, then an officer of the king said that would never happen even if God made windows in heaven, what happened to him the next day? He saw it happen but did not partake of it.
Brethren, if you want to see good, cast your cares on the Lord, think good and always speak good.
