THE COVENANT OF LOVE
John 13
34A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Dear Saints,
Last week we saw how God planned the cutting of the covenant all by Himself. He took care of the fowls without human help. Sometimes we think that God needs our help to do certain things, but we need to remember, the covenant of provision was between him, and Himself without human involvement.
Genesis 15:17-18
And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
Many scholars agree that the smoking furnace, and the burning lamp that passed over the split animals is a type of Jesus, who came in between Abraham and God to consummate an irrevocable agreement.
Hebrews 6
13For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he swore by himself.
Now then, because of this covenant relationship which is between God and God, we have full, not partial representation in God and His abilities. Jesus our justifier stands in the gap and we can stand strong with all power and authority in His name. Thus, what is impossible in the natural, is possible through Him. We who are born again are in Christ and because WE are in Him, we are in covenant not only with Him, but also with one another. As a result, we are able to love one another as He loved us.
