THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE SONG OF SOLOMON
The Song of Solomon is a poetic conversation between lovers. But it doubles as a parallel for Christ’s love for the church. The young man represents Christ, and the young woman represents the Church.
The Holy Spirit appears a few times in this book. He’s the unquenchable fire of God’s love for us.
Song 8:6-7 Place me like a seal over your heart, or like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, and its jealousy is as enduring as the grave. Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame. 7 Many waters cannot quench love; neither can rivers drown it.… NLT
The Holy Spirit is the seal we received when we gave our lives to Christ. He’s the sweet alluring love that draws two lovers together.
Eph. 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. NKJV.
He’s the engagement ring of our betrothal to Christ. (2 Cor.11:2; Rev. 19:7) A constant reminder of what our Lord has said to us. (John 14:26)
Song 4:16 “Awake, north wind! Come, south wind! Blow on my garden and waft its lovely perfume to my lover. Let him come into his garden and eat its choicest fruits.” NLT
Pretty intimate description there. Jesus said:
However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. John 16:7 AMP
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit for us to have an intimate communion with Him.
2 Cor. 13:14 The grace (favor and spiritual blessing) of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the presence and fellowship (the communion and sharing together, and participation) in the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen (so be it). AMP
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit so we could have the sweet communion and sharing together and participation with Him. He is the real wind beneath our wings. He’s your advantage and He’s here to oversee and promote your success in life.
In this book, the Holy Spirit is calling us to make intimacy with God the goal of our life. The Song highlights how full our life is when our consuming passion is to love and know Jesus. If you will spend quality intimate time of fellowship with the Holy Spirit, He’ll help you understand and enjoy your inheritance in Christ. (first 4 chapters.) He’ll also reveal Jesus’ inheritance in the church. (Last 4 chapters.) One of the ways we fellowship with the Spirit is simply speaking in tongues. He wants us to love Jesus with all our heart. In these last days, allow Him to ignite your heart with a fresh passionate love for Jesus.
