WISDOM AND DISCERNMENT
Dear beloved brethren,
As we grow in wisdom, we find ourselves walking in greater levels of discernment.
What is discernment? It means ability to know or tell the difference in situations, to judge them accurately and act accordingly by choosing the right thing or action. Discernment differs from the gift of discerning of spirits: one of the nine gifts of the Spirit that operate as He wills. There is no gift of the Spirit called discernment. Discernment is available to every child of God in the wisdom of God.
Ecclesiastes 8:5 says that a wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment.
A wise man discerns or judges time. The Bible also tells us in Ecclesiastes 3 that there is a season for every purpose. For example: V.2 says there is a time (season) to be born and a season to die. I think that rules out premature births and abortions. There is a right season to be born and a right season to die:
when you are very old and satisfied. The Bible tells us in Genesis 15:15 that you shall be buried in a good old age, just as there is a harvesting time for corn. (Job 5:26.)
Ecclesiastes 3:7 also tells us that there is a time to be silent and a time to talk. Did you know the Bible tells us that even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive? (Prov. 17:28) The wisdom of God will teach you to discern the time to talk and the time to be silent. When you discern the time to be silent, you learn more. When you discern the time to speak out, especially in speaking to the mountain of hindrances, commanding the enemy to get out your way etc.; the more wisdom you have the more effective your words will be. You will use your words purposely and effectively.
Discernment also means taste. You can develop spiritual taste as you grow spiritually. The more you grow in the Word and in God, the harder it is for you to be deceived. Even when you hear people teach unscriptural things, you will do something that Bro. Hagin used to say: “Eat the hay and spit the sticks.” As you grow in God and His Word, you become skillful in the Word of righteousness.
Heb. 5:13-14 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil (Hebrews 5:13 -14 KJV)
Our five fold senses can literally be trained to discern between good and evil. The Word of God in you will help you discern between right and wrong. The Word is a discerner.
Heb. 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. KJV
The New Living Translation says: … those who are mature, who have trained themselves to recognize the difference between right and wrong and then do what is right.
