YOUR BODY IS FOR THE LORD
Dearest brethren,
Let’s look at 1 Cor. 6:12-20
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. NKJV
As you look at this Scripture, you will see that God has given a high level of importance to our bodies. Has said that:
- Our bodies are members of Christ
- Our bodies are for the Lord and the Lord is for our bodies
- Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
- Our bodies are for the glory of God
Our bodies are our most important asset because without a healthy physical body, one cannot exist here on the earth. Once your body stops functioning, your spirit and soul leave this planet and your body is buried. But while you’re still alive, your body has great significance. This body is part of the eternal body of Christ.According to the Bible,God has put you in charge of that body of yours. He has advised you to present it to Him as a living holy sacrifice. (Romans 12:1) He has told you not to defile it because it is the temple of God. (1 Cor. 3:16-17)
So you are in control of your body. Our opening Scripture categorically tells us that our bodies are NOT for sexual immorality. The King James Version says: 1 Cor.6:13,18Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. 18 Flee fornication. KJV
For the Bible to tell you to flee something, it means it is dangerous to you. What is fornication? Fornication is any sexual activity outside of the marriage union including adultery. Somebody might say: “Yes but we’re going to be married.” That’s exactly the same as not being married. “Yes but we’re already married in the eyes of God because we love each other. Our parents know we are living together. We even paid our dowry.” That’s the same as not being married. You are fornicating! IF YOU’RE NOT WILLING TO STAND UP BEFORE FRIENDS, FAMILY AND THE CHURCH AS WITNESSES AND CONFESS YOUR COMMITMENT TO GOD AND TO EACH OTHER BY MAKING YOUR COVENANT MARRIAGE VOWS TO GOD AND TO EACH OTHER, AFTER WHICH A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GOVERNMENT AND A MINISTER OF ALMIGHTY GOD DECLARES YOU HUSBAND AND WIFE, THEN ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE, YOU ARE NOT YET MARRIED!!!
Once people are married to each other as described above, they are now joined in a three-cord tie between each other and God after which sex is good, clean, holy, amazing and acceptable to God. Until then, it is SIN and the Bible calls it SINNING AGAINST YOUR OWN BODY! It has serious emotional and physical ramifications. Our society is in serious trouble with this issue. You the believer must hold up the standard and remain a virgin until you are married. Brethren, FLEE FORNICATION!
