1 Timothy 2

8 I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting

Dear Saints,

I wish you a very happy and prosperous new year. I enjoy new things. If it is new, I like it. New clothes, new shoes, new suits, new, new, new I enjoy it. New things create in me a feeling of “never used before” new man, and therefore has a new smell to it, and l get to use the new thing for the first time. So, it is with a new year to me. I have never been in it before, I can use it to my advantage or abuse it to my detriment. But because of its newness, am excited and I cannot abuse it. I get in it without a sense of the past and so l delve in it with the attitude, I have never been here before, so I must make the best of it. Therefore, we pray and fast every year for 21 days to find God’s direction and wisdom, because we want to unveil what’s in it for us. Pray and fast? what’s that?

Prayer is communication with God. Fasting is abstaining from things that you normally do or enjoy, in order to bring your body into subjection to spiritual things. It does not change God in any way, it changes you. When we pray and fast, we are more susceptible to the things of God. How do we do it anyway? In approaching prayer, we must do it with knowledge and understanding of God’s word. First, we need to know the difference between the Old Testament, and New Testament

Kinds of prayer. The Old Testament types of prayer cannot be used by the New Testament Church. This is because the Old Testament looked forward to the coming of the Messiah and His accomplishments, while the New Testament says, here is the Messiah. In short, what was not done in the Old is done in the New. There are many things that were not done in the Old Testament and are done in New Testament. So, we need to be careful in prayer and not waste our time in asking for things that have already been given. For example, the famous prayer of Jabez cannot apply in the New Testament. We are already blessed. Healing also has already been provided. It will be a waste of time to ask God for things He has already done, He will not answer anyway. Besides knowing the difference between Old Testament and New Testament prayer, we also need to know there are many kinds of prayer. Prayer of faith (prayer of petition), prayer of consecration, commitment, prayer of agreement, prayer of supplication and so forth. Prayer like in games, has its rules which cannot be violated.

During these 21 days of prayer and fasting, plan to come on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Kesha on Fridays, so that you may also learn how to pray “Spirit led prayers”. You will never again pray for the sake of praying, you will learn to pray correctly and accurately. Those are the prayers that get results. We want to start off this year with knowledge and understanding of prayer. Don’t you dare miss any of it. See you next week.
